Mary Ann D Kathmandu, Nepal 27 helpful votes “HI Bangkok: It's clean, clean clean!” Last month I grew to love this quiet neighborhood with its inexpensive Hostelling International site.HI Bangkok hostel is tucked behind a larger hostel, in Bangkok's Thewet. At HI Bangkok, everything is serene -- and clean. In a city this size you really appreciate a spotless hotel and a desk staff that's well informed. Living in the women’s dorm, I was in the clean and airy lobby quite a bit and met a lot of other travelers from other places. One particularly kind guest was Chris Phillips from the US (website: www.phillipsneurologicalinstitute.com). Chris and I took an air con city bus the desk clerk recommended, and went shopping for my new laptop. After shopping at Panthip Plaza, we rested outdoors and watched the culture, talking about our plans. (We were both re-locating: Chris to Manila, and me to Chiang Mai.) To find the hostel, take the airport link to Payathani or the airport bus to Kaohsan Road. A dorm room at HI Bangkok is 250 Thai baht and private rooms start at 600 baht. Their website is http://www.tyha.org. Email: bangkok@tyha.org.
